It is blue in color as its name suggest, the Blue Hawaii is a cocktail that balance flavor and color superbly from one of its key ingredients, Blue Curacao.
History of The Blue Hawaii
As per the famous story of Blue Hawaii, Bartender Harry Yee created the Blue Hawaii Cocktail in 1957 while he was working at the Hawaiian Village in Waikiki. A sales representative of Dutch distller Bols asked him to make a drink with the company’s blue Curacao liqueur and he made Blue Hawaii drink. It was Yee who named the cocktail that share its name with the 1961 Elvis Presley film. Yee was also known for possibly being the first to add banana to a Daiquiri asa well as his extravagant and unique garnishes.
- White Rum – 22.5 ml
- Vodka – 22.5 ml
- Blue Curacao – 25 ml
- Pineapple juice – 90 ml
- Lemon juice – 10 ml
- Lime juice – 10 ml
- Simple syrup – 10 ml
- Glass type – Hurricane glass
- Combine all the ingredients into your cocktail shaker
- Shake with ice
- Strain into a cocktail glass with crushed ice
- Garnish with pineapple wedge, cherry and umbrella.
Note: There are other variations of this drink like. (“Blue Hawaiian” , which uses cream of coconut.)
